Are Builders and Suppliers Ready for the new Consumer Psyche?

UDF-21 is rolled on using a paint roller.

UDF-21 is a durable, easy to apply polymer coating. Locks down splinters, nails, etc.

“For the next five to ten years, we will find ourselves in a repair market – versus a replacement market. Given the downturn in home values across the country, this is particulary true in the home repair market.”

The advent of this new consumer psyche is a heads’ up for those of us who ply our trade by supplying or installing building materials.  Although this emerging pattern can be interpreted across many segments of the market,  this post will focus on how it applies to outdoor wooden decks and docks.

Consumers who were once resolved to replacing their existing wood deck with an expensive composite wood product this spring will now walk into a building supply center looking for a product that can extend the life of their existing structure.  If they can find a product that satisfies their desire for quality while offering it at a substantial savings, they will buy it. Enter UDF-21.

UDF-21 is a water-based polymer coating that can be applied by the contractor or the homeowner.  It is very unique.

The product comes in a 5 gallon pail.  There is 3.5 gallons of wet and dry mix in the container.  The user adds 1 gallon of his color choice of exterior latex paint to the pail.  It is then mixed.  Now, there’s 4.5 gallons of coating. Within a couple of minutes, the coating achieves a “pancake batter” viscosity and it’s ready to roll out.

UDF-21 can be applied with a 3/8th nap roller or a sponge roller.  The two different rollers create two different surfaces. The nap roller creates a comfortable, skid-resistant surface while the sponge roller causes the aggregate to “pop” to the surface, creating an aggressive skid-resistant surface (great for steps).  The coating dries very fast. Tools clean up with water.

One kit of UDF-21 will cover approximately 250 square feet (two coats).

The coating is proven to encapsulate the preservatives used to treat lumber, so there’s an added benefit for those consumers looking to protect playground equipment.

The savvy contractor will frame his approach to the client by leading with repair options, while having a bag of “go-to” replacement products.  With this approach, he’s seen as a timely solution-provider, he immediately appeals to 90% of the market, and he makes the sale before competitors make similar adjustments in their approach.

Keep this post in mind and apply it.  You’ll see it’s true!  In the meantime, learn more about UDF-21 and other coatings by visiting http://www.gulfsynthetics.com or by contacting us through the blog.

All the best,

Jeff

POLYMATRx – Extend Paint Life and Skip the Next Few Paint Jobs!

Add one quart of POLYMATRx to a gallon of latex paint

Add one quart of POLYMATRx to a gallon of latex paint

Since gaining the ability to mix POLYMATRx on our own, we’ve been able to greatly reduce costs.  Therefore, we’re going to be offering our own stimulus package by drastically reducing the cost of this fantastic product.  For those readers who do not know about this fantastic paint additive, the lesson begins:

Did you know, paint companies create paint products that will eventually fail.  It’s called “planned obsolence” and most manufacturers quietly practice it.  (Tires could easily be built to last for 150,000 miles, so why don’t they?  Because tire companies want to sell you tires every 60,000 miles – that’s why.)  And that’s why you repaint every five to seven years!

Here’s how paint is designed to fail:  Paint is designed to be fairly elastic while it’s young, but after a few years in the weather, it becomes brittle and stiff.  As the siding on your home expands and contracts in changing weather, the paint can no longer “go along for the ride”, so it begins to develop fine hairline cracks.  This allows the weather to get behind the paint and the siding begins to move even more.  Soon, your paint is peeling. Plus, it’s faded.  This is the lifecycle of paint and paint companies LOVE IT!

The short story behind this is that POLYMATRx adds to paint what the paint companies should have added.  How do we know?  Well, homes in South Florida that were protected 34 years ago with POLYMATRx-modified paint have not been repainted.  In addition, we’ve always offered a 100% no questions asked refund if buyers aren’t completely satisfied with the product.  In my eight years of selling it, I haven’t been asked to refund one dime!

So if you’re thinking about painting, do yourself a huge favor and evaluate this product!  You won’t go wrong.  Visit http://www.polymatrx.com and contact us via the site.

Thanks for reading!

Yours truly,

Jeff
